Google claims “democracy on the Web works,” touting its “breakthrough technique,” PageRank. Digg claims to be a “digital media democracy,” touting it’s “all about user powered content.” Millions of marketing dollars and man-hours are spent annually to “influence” these sites, however. Are they Web democracies or Internet marketing vehicles?
